Who Are These Jews?

There were women who sat in the market<\/span>
\n selling beets and cabbages so their men could study:<\/span>
\n They were Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n

There were men of Yemen, great swordsmen,<\/span>
\n guards of the king: they were Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are dark women of India, wearing saris,<\/span>
\n Black farmers from Ethiopia, Children with slanted eyes:<\/span>
\n All Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are dressmakers and sculptors, thieves<\/span>
\n and philanthropists, scholars and nurses,<\/span>
\n beggars and generals.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are women who follow every rule of Kashrut and<\/span>
\n men who know none of the rules, yet all of us are Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though we are not alike in mind or body,<\/span>
\n somewhere in the depths of our souls<\/span>
\n we know we are the children of one people.<\/span><\/p>\n

We share history, a hope, and some prayers:<\/span>
\n We speak many languages:<\/span>
\n We have heard one Voice:<\/span><\/p>\n

All of us stood together at Sinai<\/span>
\n When our past and our future<\/span>
\nExploded in thunder and flame before us.<\/span><\/p>\n
